The Rain in Spain

May 15th, 2008

Summer’s almost upon us but this last couple of weeks you wouldn’t think so as generally it’s been gray a bit cold and we’ve had lots of rain.  It has to be said that the rain is welcome and it’s doing a power of good for the garden (and the weeds).  Anyway we decided to take the pool cover off and will start getting it cleaned in the next day or two, this is a job that normally takes about a weekend to bring the water up to a sparklingly clean state. I’ll tackle the weeds again once the ground has dried out sufficiently and the weed-killer can do its job, for those who are thinking of having a house with a large garden and pool this is a factor to take on board before deciding on which property to buy. Personally, I enjoy the garden and the space and having your own pool is great during the long summer months so for me it’s worth a bit of effort to stay on top of things and have the pleasure of living in such a great area.———————————————–www.simplymurcia.com     leaders in property in Murcia, Spain

WEIRD WEATHER

May 12th, 2008

After weeks of almost unbroken sunshine, the last 7 days in Spain have been cold windy and very wet!  What a contrast to the UK where it has been hot and sunny!!  Fortunately we spent the whole of last week in the UK so we missed most of the bad weather over here. Anyway,  if the weather forecasts right Spain will be back to its usual sunny state by tomorrow. Don’t know about the UK,  surely it cant last? ——————————www.simplymurcia.com   leaders in property in Murcia, Spain

BUYING A RESALE PROPERTY IN SPAIN

May 2nd, 2008

There’s no restrictions on foreign property ownership in Spain. When choosing a place to buy, you should engage an English-speaking Spanish solicitor who will check that the property is correctly registered.

The solicitor (abogado/a) will also ensure the property has no debts attached to it.  Once the solicitor’s satisfied the contract is in order, the buyer then lodges a ten per cent deposit.

Assuming both parties wish to proceed, the signing of the sales contract will be undertaken before the public notary in the form  of a public deed. You should allow approoximately ten per cent of the purchase price for taxes and fees.

Spain’s economic growth, which has outpaced most of the euro zone in the last few yers, will slow down in the short term but should bounce back to its recent stella rates, Economy Minister Pedro Solbes said as 2007 ended.

” It won’t be long before the positive fundamentals of the Spanish economy take over again and growth returns to the rates we saw in the last legislature, generating ever better quality of life for Spaniards” Solbes said at a political meeting.

In 2006, the Spanish economy grew 3.9%, its highest since 2000, and 2007 saw 3.8%.

Property prices close year 4% up

March 5th, 2008

Spanish property price closed the year 4% up on 2006 according to Rafael Pacheco head of the government’s architecture and housing policy unit.

Speaking at a conference organised by the instituto de Empresa business school in Madrid Pacheco said ” the progressive convergence of house prices with consumer price inflation has accelerated” but he nevertheless predicts a ” soft landing” for the Spanish property market in the context of an adjustment for the sector. He ruled out a serious crisis or a “drastic fall in property prices that threatens the national economy,” and pointed out that Euribor has started to decline, which will ease the downward pressure on property prices.

“A Place in the Sun” magazine

March 4th, 2008

We’ve been asked by ” A Place in the Sun” magazine to do a feature about Debbie and Tim who are the owners of the Montenula bar/restaurant situated in the  La Tosquilla valley.  The bar is very  close to the Residential  La Tosquilla development and therefore has great potential.  The magazine wants to feature a real life story of people who have come over to Spain and have set up a successful business. We think that the experiences of Debbie and Tim will make a great storey and will give inspiration to those seeking to start a new life in Spain.  So keep an eye out for the May edition of the magazine.

Traditional Dishes in Spain - Paella

February 27th, 2008

This traditional dish is made with rice, vegetables, saffron, chicken, rabbit and seafood. Often served as Sunday lunch as Grandparents, parents, uncles, aunts and children converge. Throughout the summer, afternoon heat drives the operation outside to the summer kitchen, known locally as a paellero.
