WEIRD WEATHER
May 12th, 2008After weeks of almost unbroken sunshine, the last 7 days in Spain have been cold windy and very wet! What a contrast to the UK where it has been hot and sunny!! Fortunately we spent the whole of last week in the UK so we missed most of the bad weather over here. Anyway, if the weather forecasts right Spain will be back to its usual sunny state by tomorrow. Don’t know about the UK, surely it cant last?
BUYING A RESALE PROPERTY IN SPAIN
May 2nd, 2008There’s no restrictions on foreign property ownership in Spain. When choosing a place to buy, you should engage an English-speaking Spanish solicitor who will check that the property is correctly registered.
The solicitor (abogado/a) will also ensure the property has no debts attached to it. Once the solicitor’s satisfied the contract is in order, the buyer then lodges a ten per cent deposit.
Assuming both parties wish to proceed, the signing of the sales contract will be undertaken before the public notary in the form of a public deed. You should allow approoximately ten per cent of the purchase price for taxes and fees.

Property prices close year 4% up
March 5th, 2008Spanish property price closed the year 4% up on 2006 according to Rafael Pacheco head of the government’s architecture and housing policy unit.
Speaking at a conference organised by the instituto de Empresa business school in Madrid Pacheco said ” the progressive convergence of house prices with consumer price inflation has accelerated” but he nevertheless predicts a ” soft landing” for the Spanish property market in the context of an adjustment for the sector. He ruled out a serious crisis or a “drastic fall in property prices that threatens the national economy,” and pointed out that Euribor has started to decline, which will ease the downward pressure on property prices.

“A Place in the Sun” magazine
March 4th, 2008We’ve been asked by ” A Place in the Sun” magazine to do a feature about Debbie and Tim who are the owners of the Montenula bar/restaurant situated in the La Tosquilla valley. The bar is very close to the Residential La Tosquilla development and therefore has great potential. The magazine wants to feature a real life story of people who have come over to Spain and have set up a successful business. We think that the experiences of Debbie and Tim will make a great storey and will give inspiration to those seeking to start a new life in Spain. So keep an eye out for the May edition of the magazine.
