Investing in property in Murcia, SpainWanting to get his foot on the property ladder, but with the price of housing out of reach in the country where he was based, Michael decided to turn to Murcia, Spain to invest his money: At the time I was living and working in the US, in an area where property reached into the millions and where the rich and famous (Steven Spielberg and Billy Joel to name but a few) bought homes. After renting property for a number of years, I wanted to get my foot on the property ladder and as the prospect of doing this was not possible in the area where I was based, decided to look to outside areas to do this. As my parents had been living in Spain for a number of years and were running their own successful estate agency there, this seemed the natural country to turn to - and I knew that I could rely on my parents judgement to tell me which were the best investment opportunities. As the property is purely for investment (I don’t intend to live there and will more than likely let the property) they suggested a Tulipan apartment on the Santa Ana del Monte Jumilla Golf Resort in Jumilla, Murcia. The choice was based on the fact that this region of Murcia (as yet an undiscovered region) is deemed as an “up and coming” area – a “property hotspot” that is expected to become a “leisure paradise” in the near future. Prices are very good in this area at the moment but are expected to increase rapidly in the next few years as the area becomes more developed. Buying on a Golf Resort such as the Santa Ana development also seemed like a good idea – properties on Golf courses tend to be worth more and the developments are usually kept in pristine condition, which make properties on them easier to sell. With such a range of top class leisure and sporting facilities – two professional golf courses, gyms, pools, horse riding, tennis, badminton, shops, bars and restaurants – all under one roof, it seemed the ideal place for both living and holidaying.The location of the site is excellent, just a few minutes drive into the main town of Jumilla yet set in beautiful mountain scenery. My parents also know the development company, San Jose, very well, having lived in one of their properties before, and rate them as a well respected company. Having knowledge of the Tulipan apartment (from my parents previous purchase) and the Murcia area from my previous visits to Spain, I decided to go ahead and buy a top floor Tulipan apartment on the Santa Ana del Monte Jumilla Golf Resort. Not long after putting down my deposits I was able to make a trip over to visit the development and take a look at the apartment. The design of the apartment has greatly improved (comparing the new model to that which my parents previously lived in). The quality of build is excellent. The apartment is very spacious, with a large lounge diner, a good sized kitchen and even a separate utilty and large rooftop solarium - a great place to relax and unwind and soak up the Spanish sun and stunning mountain views. The Sales Office has a large scale model of the development which gave me a good understanding of how the development will look when complete. Many properties have already been sold on this Resort which shows its popularity - I’m really looking forward to my property being completed.
